Practice sites including some done as student assignments

Above It All

I’m stealing an idea from WordPress and giving my practice site “theme” names. Above It All has all its elements floating above the background no longer tied to boxes and borders.

The design showcases the new CSS3 features of opacity, border-radius (makes rounded corners on boxes) and box-shadow, which means IE is not the best browser to use to view the site. The site doesn’t break, but the effects are reduced to a series of flat boxes.

I also included a couple of jQuery effects for this sample. The information in the left bar opens to show and hide information. The changes in the opacity for the navigation button roll-overs are also jQuery driven.

The business was borrowed from one of my student designs because I really like the header.

Student work

These are sites that I did as part of the coursework for the Web Technologies Associate Certificate at BCIT. They can give you an idea of the topics covered in the courses and my skills with them. All the sites are hand coded in validated HTML & CSS. And the JavaScript is error free.

Weather Canada — A “weather station” site created to work with JavaScript.

Attic Toybox — Retail site with JavaScript shopping cart. (NOTE: The checkout does not work on this site as it can no longer point to the CGI script provided by the course.)

Quilt in a Flash — Pure Flash website designed for a multi-media gallery

Tamarack Shack (1st Draft) — My first attempt at JavaScript, but I liked the design. I think I’m going to play with that idea for a practice piece. (NOTE: 1 page, links deactivated)
